jack: i thought i'd share this ring. i bought it for myself for my high school graduation, and i have worn it every day since i got it. it was created by a Japanese designer who trained with American Indians and their traditional jewelry making and silversmithing techniques. the designer interpreted that philosophy, approach and tradition and brought it over to Japan to make a contemporary version, while honoring the traditional way of making Native American art.

esc:  why do you think the Thunderbird silhouette spoke to you most?

jack: the Thunderbird is a very powerful figure. when I initially saw it, it just spoke to me, the simple design, geometry and symmetry. i saw it and it became an entry way into the aesthetic.  at that point, i still had no idea i was going to work in NYC for a luxury brand which also plays into the aesthetic this ring represents.

esc:  it’s  funny how this piece helped you start a path in a way. it's like it guided you right to New York and to work for an iconic fashion house.

jack: unknowingly, but it happened anyway.  it led me on the path to where I've been for the past three years.

esc: it's a kind of power of intention without knowing it.

jack: strangely enough, yes.

esc: where do you think your ring’s going to take you in five years?

jack:  i didn't know where it would lead me when i first bought it. so it could be taking me on a totally different journey.  i’ll just keep putting it on day after day.

esc: it's definitely not a traditional graduation ring.

jack: it continues to be a reminder of the first piece i really wanted to invest in, one i would have for a while.  i bought it to commemorate that moment, graduating into a different sector. i’ll wear it a bit more as I‘ll continue graduating to something else.

esc: what I hear and see is that you have invested into yourself, creating your own path, your own aesthetic by living each day in the moment.  congratulations wise one.
